Education and public schools Educational inequality  is the unequal distribution of academic resources, including but not limited to; school funding, qualified and experienced teachers, books, and technologies to socially excluded  communities . These communities tend to be historically disadvantaged and oppressed. More times than not, individuals belonging to these  marginalized  groups are also denied access to the schools with abundant resources. Inequality leads to major differences in the educational success or efficiency of these individuals and ultimately suppresses  social  and  economic mobility . In Chile the municipalization, promoted by the dictatorship from 1986, was a great dynamiter of public education. The municipalities were forced to support the educational centers with municipal budgets and state subsidies. The effect was immediate: the richest areas were strengthened, attracting -in addition- the best students, while the po...

As you know I am currently studying food engineering, so I would like to work as a food engineering. I imagine working in some important laboratory of some company that is engaged in food production. I always liked being in the laboratories, because I think it's very fun and interesting what is done there. But I'd love to travel a lot, too. I understand that what is more traveling in this jobis to go to conferences, trainings or to go to perfection at another foreing university.  Whit regard to pay, this is low for the work we have to do. Talking one day with a teacher who also studied food engineering, he also told me his discomfort whit regard to wages, as it is still difficult for companies to what we do, but I hope that in the not too distant future we can have a much better salary. Well, I really like what I'm studying, it's very entertaining and it also has its degree of difficulty that makes one stay interested in the career. I hope that in the future it will no...

Hello! As post four is on a free subject I will talk to you about the pet I just adopted. I have never had a pet in my life because the oppotunity has never been give, since we have to take care of them very much and spend enough time on it that we did not have, but just today we decided to adopt a kitten, change his life and give im much love. Whith my family we do not know much about how to take care of a kitten, especially a small one, since the one we adopt is two months old but I have been investigating and learning everything that should be given to them, every thin you have to take to the vet, the best meals, etc. This has us all very enthusiastic, especially my little brothers.  Reference photo Now whit my family we are seeing where to buy him his things like the bed, the sander and the food so that when I arrived (I forgot to mention that he still does not get to our house) he has his space ready and is comfortable. Well, we are already counting the days so that our ...

Hi everyone, I study food engineering. I entered the race in 2018 when I was 18 years old. I'll tell you that at first I wasn't sure if this was what I wanted to study, since I was very small and I didn´t know my tastes, but when I started investigating I realized how interesting it was, in addition to being very new, and once inside I started to see how important food engineers are in the food industry.  I'll tell you a little bit about this career. The food engineer has knowledge of quality control management, nutritional value of food, modern conservation, storage and transport techniques, etc. That's why we have a great field of work to work, although we still can't make salaries good.  For me the benefit of studying this career is that you mix physics, chemistry and mathematics with food, so much is what one learns and nourishes knowledge, which I love. It is also very interesting to learn from food. I hope that we can return to face-to-face classes soon, as it...

The vacation that I liked the most and I remember as if I were yesterday jaja, is when I went to Coquimbo in 2017. Three years have passed since that trip, with which I did with my family: my parents, , my brother and my sister. We travelled by car so it took us several hours to get to the destination. What I like to remember most is the path since the landscape was very beautiful. I remember that reaching the fourth region there were giant wind energy fields, it was impressive how high those "machines" were to call it in some way. We stayed in Coquimbo near the beach La Herradura but we were not only there, we went to La Serena, Guanaqueros, Totoralillo, among others. I think what made this trip more special was that we decided to go to know El valle del Elqui. The trip was long but it was worth it because it was all very nice. We met many beautiful places and it was very entertaining. I'd repeat it again!

Hi, everyone. Today I'm coming to talk about my favorite city and which I would like to visit. This is New York. It's located in the United States in North America. I would like to visit this city someday because during these quarantine months I saw a series called "Gossip Girl" where the history happens in New York, specifically Manhattan. I don´t know much about this city. I just know it's the economic sector in the United States, which is also where the Empire States and Central Park are located. When travelling there (because I will do so if or if one day) I'd like to visit all the iconic places in the series I saw like the MET stairs, Central Park, Upper East Side neighborhood (which is where the glamorous characters of the series live), the hotel Empire and many other places more. I would love to be able to live in that city if life allows me at any time. The city is beautiful, it has everything to entertain from parks, knowledge places such as museums ...

A Subject you enjoyed studying this semester

Imagen
Electromagnetism, I think, was one of the subjects that I liked the most so far in the faculty. The time we had to have face-to-face classes, before the ¨social outbreak¨ ocurred, I was always with my classmate doing exercises on the subject that the teacher was dictating at the time or talking about what he was teaching us. Some of the contents that we saw in that subject was electric field, electric and ionic currents, magnetic force, among many other things jajaja.  I think I liked this subject a lot because Professor Daniel Valdés transmitted the love and passion he felt when teaching us electromagnetism. He made us feel that nothing was difficult and that by striving and above all wanting to learn we would achieve everything we set out to. Also the way he had to teach was very cool, he would stand on the table or jump, etc. to explain something to us and we could also joke and laugh with him as if we were all friends. Maybe more than liking the subject, I liked the way this te...

An Expert on your field

I don´t know if I admire someone because I think I have never felt that feeling towards someone, but I do like to recognize people´s achievements. One of the people that I really like right now is the teacher Lilian Abugoch. She is a professor at the Faculty of Chemical and Fharmaceutical Sciences and also studied Food Engineering at that Faculty. Well she is head of the department of food science and chemical technology, she also has a doctorate exact sciences from a foreign university. I do not know her personal life or anything like that, since with the online semester it is very difficult to talk beyond the subject, but from what she has been able to share with us and what I could investigate she has many projects published in important international magazines of great importance. One of her latest publications corresponds to ¨Development of a scalable procedure by a discontinuous crossflow DF/UF to obtain a concentrate of chenopodin from a dead-end centrifugal UF at bench scale...

A Band / Singer I like

Imagen
I think I don´t have a single band or singer that I like, since there is a lot really good and interesting music but there is an artist that I never get bored  listening to, I´m talking about Amy Winehouse. I think the first song I heard from her was ¨Rehab¨. I was about six or seven years old and it was being played on the radio. I remember that I was obsessed with that song for a long time and that was what allowed me to meet that artist. What I know about Amy Winehouse is that she actively started singing around two thousand and three and that she is British, well and also her addiction problems and her complicated life. The type of music she played is a mix of soul, pop soul, jazza and among others. She was really good at what she did. Well, one of my favorite songs and that I can listen to all day every day is ¨Back to Black¨. I really like this song a lot, the feelings it expresses and how she expresses them in her song is very nice. I like Amy Winehouse because she has...

A Photograph I like

Imagen
This photo was taken by my mom´s cousin. I don´t remember the date of this photo well but I think it was a Friday in December 2017. I love this photo, in it are my parents, my brothers, my grandparents and my boyfriend. We were about to leave my home to go to my graduation party! I was very excited because I had waited a long time for that day and in addition to that it meant that school was finally over and all that stage. At the party we had a great time, we ate deliciously, we danced and we took many more fun photos. It was an incredible night and I felt beautiful in my dress. I would love to repeat that night, it was really magical and I had a great time with my family.

My Best Friend

Good morning readers, today I´m going to talk about my best friend. She is a very emotional, creative and outgoing person. Her name is Francisca. I met her at the school eigth years ago, when we were in seventh grade. From that moment we became friends and we have been together until today. Although when we graduate we took different paths, we are always chatting and getting together from time to time. She gets along very well with my family and I with hers family too, for the same reason we never have problems for going out or going to sleep at each other´s houses. One of the best memories I have with her is when went on a study trip and we left the group to sight-seeing in the center of Chiloé and we got lost. It was very funny. I consider Francisca my best friend because from day one, she have been with me in the most important processes of my life, she always listens to me, advises me, comforts me and because she is very funny. I hope that when this pandemic end we can see each o...

My Favorite Piece of Technology

I think that my favorite piece of technology is my cell phone. Firts of all, because I have all my things in it! My life jaja. With it I can talk  with my friends, my family and check my social networks. Besides, I can watch movies and series. My parents gave me my phone at Christmas 2018 (yes, if it is a little old), but it works very well. I use my phone all day, but now I´m in full class at the university and I can´t use it at all times. I love my phone, with it I do a lot of my daily activities. I think if I didn´t have my phone at first I would be a little lost or just bored, because I´m used to always having it with me but it would be interesting to try to get away from it (like I detox). P.D: My second favorite piece of technology is my notebook computer, beacuse I saved a lot of money to be able to buy it. It´s my baby.

Why did you choose your career / study programm

When I was a little girl, I lived with my grandparents. I always said when I turned into a adult I would take care them when they were old. I of dreamed being the best doctor for my grandparents and give them a good life with the money could I can have with this job. But when I went to the high school, I realized I didn´t like biology subject, so I couldn´t study that career. So that in the high school I took humanist programm.  I started to realize I liked the social science like literature, economy, psychology and the other things. But when I prepared myself for the PSU I thougth that the social science could be more a hobby and not my future. After that, I decided to study a career that had chemistry, mathematics, etc. I searched many careers with this characteristic and I found the faculty of chemical and pharmaceutical sciences of the University of Chile, which had careers that I like. After taking the test, I applied to the food engineering career first because it was th...
